I have recently started watching an amazing TV show on the A&E channel called Many Sides of Jane. This show chronicles the life of Jane, who is a woman in her late-20's living with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder. Jane has 9 "parts" total, and she frequently switches between parts.

Jane is a mom of 2 boys and she said that one of the things people question the most is how she is able to remain a good mom for her boys despite her DID. This is where the show is so great. While some movies represent DID in a bad light, such as the movie Split, this show points out how people with DID can be really successful, high functioning people that are not at all a danger to society.

The show follows Jane on her path to discovering more about DID and what caused her disorder. She was diagnosed only a few years prior to the show beginning, so she still has a lot to learn. One thing that she discovered is that some of her parts are present in order to help her cope with the trauma and abuse she experienced as a child, and some are there to help her be more outgoing and have a good time. The parts range in ages from 6-28 years old and they all serve a different purpose.

Jane is in frequent outpatient counseling, and she seems to really get a lot out of her counseling sessions. As a counselor-in-training myself, it's inspiring to see someone benefit so greatly from my chosen career path.

If you're looking for an interesting, informative, and entertaining TV show I recommend checking out Many Sides of Jane. Enjoy!
